Eighty-one years ago, the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing more than 200,000 civilians in the first and only wartime use of nuclear weapons. Coming at the end of the World Anti-Fascist War in the Pacific, after the peoples of Asia had paid an immense price to defeat Japanese fascism, the bombings left an indelible mark on humanity's conscience and strengthened the global conviction that war—and especially nuclear war—must never be repeated.
Today, that legacy is under threat. Okinawa remains burdened by the overwhelming concentration of US military bases in Japan, while Japan's rapid remilitarisation has become a central pillar of Washington's New Cold War in Asia. On the anniversary of the bombings, this webinar brings together voices from Okinawa and mainland Japan to reflect on what "never again" demands of us today. As militarisation expands across our region, Hands Off Asia is a call to oppose foreign military bases, reject imperial confrontation, and defend the sovereignty of Asian peoples.

81年前、米国は広島と長崎に原子爆弾を投下し、20万人以上の民間人を犠牲にした。これは、戦争中に核兵器が使用された最初かつ唯一の事例である。太平洋における世界反ファシズム戦争の終結間際、アジアの人々が日本のファシズムを打ち破るために計り知れない代償を払った後に起きたこの原爆投下は、人類の良心に消えることのない傷跡を残し、戦争――とりわけ核戦争――は決して繰り返してはならないという世界的な確信を強固なものにした。
今日、その遺産は脅かされています。沖縄は、日本国内における米軍基地の圧倒的な集中という重荷を依然として背負い続けており、一方、日本の急速な再軍備化は、ワシントンによるアジアでの「新冷戦」の中心的な柱となっています。本ウェビナーでは、沖縄と日本からの市民の抵抗運動の声を結集し、悲惨な歴史を「二度と繰り返してはならない」という言葉が、今日の私たちに何を求めているのかを考察します。この地域全体で軍事化が拡大する中、「Hands Off Asia」（米軍はアジアに手を出すな！）は、外国の軍事基地に反対し、帝国主義的な対立を拒絶し、アジアの人々の主権を守るよう呼びかける運動です。
